THE INTERPRETATION OF THE FATE OF MINORITY IN ÁRON TAMÁSI’S SHORT STORIES

Abstract

The study examines the segment of Áron Tamási’s short stories on minority destiny that provides self-criticism of the Székely mentality. These works, which reflect the inspiring effect of the idea of Transylvanism, consider one of the main obstacles to the peaceful coexistence of the three Transylvanian nations in the Hungarian supremacy and in the deep-rooted ethnic prejudices of the Székelys. Tamási’s short stories interpret the mentality and inner world of the Székely people as the scene of the struggle between two principles, where the Christian principle of love and the pagan temperament collide with each other. This approach, placed in a kind of mythical context, seeks to find a reassuring solution to the social problems that the Hungarians living inTransylvania faced after the Trianon Treaty.
